Biography
Giulio di Robilant (Turin, 2004) has cultivated art since he was a child, drawing and painting like many in the history of his family. After a cycle of studies in Italy and abroad (Cambridge – classical studies and philosophy), in 2019 he approached photography by winning the SoNYT Photojournalism Challenge and the relative publication of the winning photograph in the New York Times.
Giulio di Robilant’s research is marked by the simplicity of forms, by the control of the boundaries of the view on the observed subject, merging the mathematical orders of architecture with the aesthetics of artistic choice. Some images are glimpses of landscapes glimpsed through windows or openings in walls (Alpine Window 1 and 2), others seem to capture moments of the daily life of young figures who do not know they are in front of a lens (Brisa, VV1). Also singular is the self-portrait Red Audience which shows how a subtle aesthetic irony often occurs in his works. Giulio di Robilant states “Photography is the process through which I consciously compose my external space, impressing my understanding of the experience through aesthetics”.
