Biography

DANIELE ACCOSSATO (Torino, 1987)

Daniele Accossato (Turin, 1987) is a contemporary sculptor. At the age of fifteen he identified sculpture as a congenial method of communication, the place where necessity takes shape. In 2011 he graduated with honors from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin. Talking about art and sculpture, he reveals that “it is essential that everyone constantly works in search of their own means, the medium capable of leading them to the most captivating expression of themselves and to a constant and constructive comparison with the Other”.

His research starts from technique, from the alchemy of sculpture, from the icons that identify our cultural and artistic heritage, to explore the internal dynamics of the human being and the common aesthetic sense. The subjects chosen are archetypes, symbolic images that resonate in us because they are part of our culture with the aim of internalizing it, filtering it and therefore overcoming it. In citationism there is a feeling of gratitude even if then, in Accossato’s work, these icons are somehow mistreated, hidden, forced, sacrificed. The symbolic act of “kidnapping” iconic works of the past is irreverent: it can represent the need to free oneself from an education or a tradition that in some cases can be crippling, freeing oneself from preconceptions and canons. At the same time it is a way to give new life, to make symbols considered untouchable, invaluable, closer to us, more human.

His latest phase of research presents a cycle of unpublished works, where the artist tries to give space to the sculptural instinct and the freedom of the gesture. The all-round sculpture made with the beautiful model leaves room for the unfinished, to embrace a broader reflection on the act of modeling and on the process of construction of the work, in the conceptual phase as in the realization phase. An innovative research with which Accossato tries to free himself from classical icons, without denying the past but supporting the need to continue his research, necessarily passing through the deconstruction of the figure.
