DESCRIPTION:  \nBeyond the Portrait \n21 March – 21 April 2026  \nGaleria Xavier Fiol – Palma di Maiorca \nThe exhibition Beyond the Portrait marks the beginning of a new dialogue between artistic communities in Italy and Spain\, inaugurated at Xavier Fiol Gallery in Palma de Mallorca. Presented in the context of the exchange initiative between TAG – Torino Art Galleries meets Art Palma Contemporani\, the show brings together the works of Italian artists Alessandro Cardinale and Giacomo Modolo. \nMoving beyond the traditional understanding of portraiture\, the exhibition explores how identity\, presence\, and representation can be reimagined through contemporary artistic practices. Rather than focusing solely on the depiction of a face or figure\, the works presented investigate the psychological\, symbolic\, and conceptual dimensions of portraiture. The portrait becomes a field of inquiry—an open space where the boundaries between subject and context\, interiority and appearance\, begin to dissolve. \nAlessandro Cardinale’s practice examines the tension between representation and abstraction\, using the human figure as a starting point for a broader reflection on perception and memory. His works evoke the presence of individuals while simultaneously fragmenting and reconfiguring their image\, inviting viewers to question the stability of identity. \nGiacomo Modolo approaches portraiture through a process that blends figuration with subtle distortions and layered surfaces. Presentata nell’ambito dell’iniziativa di scambio TAG – Torino Art Galleries meets Art Palma Contemporani\, l’esposizione riunisce le opere degli artisti italiani Alessandro Cardinale e Giacomo Modolo. \nSuperando la concezione tradizionale del ritratto\, la mostra esplora come identità\, presenza e rappresentazione possano essere ripensate attraverso le pratiche artistiche contemporanee. Piuttosto che concentrarsi esclusivamente sulla raffigurazione di un volto o di una figura\, le opere presentate indagano le dimensioni psicologiche\, simboliche e concettuali del ritratto. Il ritratto diventa così un campo di ricerca — uno spazio aperto in cui i confini tra soggetto e contesto\, interiorità e apparenza iniziano a dissolversi. \nLa pratica di Alessandro Cardinale esamina la tensione tra rappresentazione e astrazione\, utilizzando la figura umana come punto di partenza per una riflessione più ampia sulla percezione e sulla memoria. Le sue opere evocano la presenza degli individui mentre al tempo stesso ne frammentano e riconfigurano l’immagine\, invitando lo spettatore a interrogarsi sulla stabilità dell’identità. \nGiacomo Modolo affronta il ritratto attraverso un processo che combina figurazione\, sottili distorsioni e superfici stratificate. Le sue opere suggeriscono narrazioni che rimangono in parte celate\, dove il ritratto diventa un luogo di risonanza emotiva più che una somiglianza definita. \nInsieme\, i due artisti aprono uno spazio in cui il ritratto si espande oltre i suoi limiti storici\, trasformandosi in una riflessione su come vediamo\, ricordiamo e costruiamo l’immagine dell’altro. \nBeyond the Portrait non è solo una mostra\, ma anche un gesto di collaborazione. The exhibition marks the beginning of a new collaborative path with CRAG Gallery and inaugurates a program dedicated to emerging artists\, within a space conceived as a dynamic environment for research\, promotion\, and dialogue. \nPallavisini’s painting practice is rooted in his training at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice\, reflected in a careful construction of the image and a particular sensitivity to painterly material and the relationship between figure and space. Painting emerges as a layered language in which mark and color retain a strong expressive autonomy. \nThe works are inhabited by animal figures and hybrid presences\, suspended between reality and imagination. While maintaining formal recognizability\, these subjects adopt attitudes and dynamics that recall human behavior: they observe one another\, brush past each other\, isolate themselves\, or confront each other. The result is a series of scenes that evoke shared relationships and fragilities\, activating a subtle shift between animal and human in which the viewer is led to recognize elements of their own experience. \nA distinctive feature of the work is a subtle\, understated irony that runs through the images via deviations\, unexpected juxtapositions\, and slight dissonances. This register keeps the works balanced between immediacy and depth\, avoiding a single\, fixed interpretation. \nThe exhibition is conceived as an experience of discovery and direct interaction. The works require an active gaze and a willingness to engage: not passive viewing\, but an encounter in which each piece is completed through the viewer’s interpretation. La pittura emerge come linguaggio stratificato\, in cui segno e colore conservano una forte autonomia espressiva. \nLe opere sono abitate da figure animali e presenze ibride\, sospese tra realtà e immaginazione. Pur mantenendo una riconoscibilità formale\, questi soggetti assumono atteggiamenti e dinamiche che richiamano il comportamento umano: si osservano\, si sfiorano\, si isolano o si confrontano. Ne derivano scene che evocano relazioni e fragilità condivise\, attivando un sottile slittamento tra animale e umano in cui lo spettatore è portato a riconoscere elementi della propria esperienza. \nElemento distintivo del lavoro è una sottile ironia\, mai dichiarata\, che attraversa le immagini attraverso scarti\, accostamenti inattesi e leggere dissonanze. Questo registro mantiene le opere in equilibrio tra immediatezza e profondità\, evitando una lettura univoca. \nLa mostra si configura come un’esperienza di scoperta e di interazione diretta. Le opere richiedono uno sguardo attivo e una disponibilità alla relazione: non una fruizione passiva\, ma un incontro in cui ogni lavoro si completa attraverso l’interpretazione dello spettatore.
