SUMMARY:Bea Sarrias - Living Architectures
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \n \n  \n \n  \n \n  \n \n\nBEA SARRIAS\nLIVING ARCHITECTURES\n12 September – 17 October 2026 \nOpening:\nSaturday\, 12 September\, 11 am–7 pm\nSunday\, 13 September\, 11 am–5 pm\nCRAG – Chiono Reisova Art Gallery presents Living Architectures\, a solo exhibition by Bea Sarrias\, the Spanish artist born in Barcelona in 1978\, whose painting has for years explored the relationship between architecture\, light\, and the memory of space.\nThe exhibition stems from a reflection on architecture no longer understood as an immobile structure\, but as a lived space\, traversed by light\, nature\, and human presence. Sarrias’s works depict spaces that seem to exist beyond their architectural function\, most of them designed by major architects\, while also conveying their environmental and domestic dimension. Her practice begins with an extensive period of research\, photographic documentation\, and architectural study\, ultimately leading to the creation of a true portrait of space. \nArchitecture thus becomes a means through which to observe light\, proportions\, surfaces\, and\, above all\, that more intangible dimension that makes a place recognisable and alive. \nStrongly influenced by twentieth-century American Realism\, the artist focuses her attention on perspective\, composition\, and the quality of light. In her works\, however\, the accuracy of representation does not simply correspond to a documentary intention: through a realistic yet atmospheric approach to painting\, Sarrias transforms architecture into a perceptual experience. \nThe references to great modern and contemporary architecture constitute for Sarrias a field of research through which to investigate the relationship between form\, environment\, and life. In the works presented in Living Architectures\, the architectures of some of the key figures of modernism emerge\, including Oscar Niemeyer\, José Antonio Coderch\, Carlo Scarpa\, Jørn Utzon\, and Adalberto Libera\, the architect of Casa Malaparte. Sarrias interprets these buildings through a gaze that conveys not only their design power\, but above all their lived dimension. \nThe geometries\, volumes\, and surfaces conceived by these great masters become\, in Sarrias’s paintings\, spaces traversed by light\, vegetation\, and time. Architecture is thus freed from a purely monumental dimension and brought back to its relationship with the environment and with the everyday experience of inhabiting a space. \nIn Living Architectures\, this process opens further towards the landscape. While in the artist’s earlier research her attention was focused primarily on interiors and on the relationship between objects and the memory of their inhabitants\, her gaze has progressively shifted outward\, incorporating gardens\, swimming pools\, vegetation\, and fragments of landscape. \nArchitecture no longer constitutes a clear boundary between interior and exterior\, but becomes a permeable threshold\, a device through which nature and inhabited space enter into dialogue. The building is no longer merely an object to be observed\, or an example of architectural and aesthetic beauty to be contemplated\, but an environment in transformation\, in which nature\, light\, and memory continuously generate new configurations. \nSarrias’s painting therefore operates within a subtle tension between presence and absence. Human figures are often completely absent\, and yet the spaces appear inhabited. Objects\, openings\, traces of use\, the arrangement of elements\, and above all the light suggest the presence of those who have lived\, or might live\, within these places. \nLight consequently assumes a central role. It is not merely an atmospheric element\, but a true pictorial material: it defines volumes\, constructs depth\, establishes relationships between architecture and landscape\, and introduces a temporal dimension into the painting. The same architecture can appear different depending on the time of day\, the season\, and the intensity of the light. It is through this variability that the represented space acquires an almost organic dimension. \nThe references to great modern and contemporary architecture – from Mies van der Rohe to Richard Neutra\, from José Antonio Coderch to Antonio Bonet Castellana\, Josep Lluís Sert\, and Gio Ponti – constitute for Sarrias not a repertoire to be celebrated\, but a field of research through which to investigate the relationship between form\, environment\, and life. \nBorn and educated in Barcelona\, Bea Sarrias studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona and\, in 2016\, took part in the Maestros de la figuración workshop with Antonio López at the University of Navarra. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions in Spain and internationally\, in cities including Brussels\, New York\, Oslo\, Malmö\, and Amsterdam. \nIn 2019\, she created the project Inside at the new NATO headquarters in Brussels\, a large-scale painted portrait produced on site. Her subsequent research has further explored the relationship between architecture\, heritage\, and memory. Her works are held\, among others\, in the collections of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation\, the Eileen Kaminsky Foundation\, the Saffca Foundation\, and the Open Earth Foundation. \nWith Living Architectures\, CRAG proposes a journey in which painting becomes a tool to slow down the gaze and restore a human dimension to architecture. The buildings\, gardens\, and spaces depicted by Sarrias are not static settings\, but places in which time\, light\, and memory continue to act. \nArchitectures\, therefore\, not only to be inhabited\, but capable of living themselves. \nCRAG – Chiono Reisova Art Gallery\nVia Parma 66/D – Torino\ninfo@cragallery.com\nwww.cragallery.com

SUMMARY:ALESSANDRO CARDINALE - SLANT OF LIGHT
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nPRESS RELEASE\nALESSANDRO CARDINALE\nSLANT OF LIGHT\nLight as Matter\, Sculpture as a Perceptual Experience\nCRAG – Chiono Reisova Art Gallery\, Turin\n24 October 2026 – 10 January 2027\nOpening: Saturday\, 24 October\, 10:00 am–9:00 pm\nVia Parma 66D\, Turin\nCRAG – Chiono Reisova Art Gallery presents Slant of Light\, a solo exhibition by Alessandro Cardinale\, introducing to the public for the first time a new and previously unseen body of sculptures from the Scherzi di Luce (Play of Light) series\, the result of over two years of research and experimentation into the relationship between matter\, light and perception. \nThe exhibition marks a new chapter in the artist’s practice\, which has always focused on the conditions that make the appearance of form possible. In Cardinale’s work\, sculpture is not a defined and immutable volume\, but rather takes shape through the interplay between presence and absence\, solids and voids\, light and shadow. The work does not present itself to the viewer as a complete image; instead\, it gradually reveals itself\, transforming in relation to the surrounding space and the observer’s position. \nAt the heart of the exhibition is the Scherzi di Luce (Play of Light) series\, in which Cardinale takes this investigation to a new level\, treating light not as an element to be represented\, but as a material to be shaped. The sculptures are composed of thousands of small\, square wooden surfaces painted gold and arranged at carefully calculated angles. Each element\, identical to the others in shape and colour\, responds differently to light\, generating a shifting pattern of reflections and shadows. \nThe reference to the gold backgrounds of traditional mosaics and icons evokes a symbolic and transcendent dimension\, in which light lifts figures beyond ordinary reality\, placing them in a suspended\, almost sacred space. Cardinale draws on this visual heritage to bring deeply human faces to life\, allowing them to emerge from an apparently abstract surface without being carved into the material or applied onto it. Their presence is the result of a carefully constructed perceptual process: minute variations in the angle of the individual elements alter the way light is reflected\, causing images to appear and disappear. \nThe viewer is thus drawn into an active experience. By moving through the space and changing their viewpoint\, they discover figures that become visible only from certain angles\, before dissolving once again into the golden background. The image is never definitive: it exists only through the encounter between the structure of the artwork\, the ambient light and the gaze of the observer. \nIn Slant of Light\, technical precision and design complexity become tools in the service of an investigation that extends beyond the purely formal dimension. Cardinale’s work thus forms part of a broader reflection on the nature of perception and the relationship between the artwork and reality\, also evoking the thought of Medardo Rosso and his conception of form as a phenomenon inseparable from light\, air and the surrounding environment. \nSculpture is no longer merely an object to be observed\, but a condition that makes the appearance of the image possible. Light becomes the medium through which matter is transformed and the figure revealed\, without ever becoming entirely fixed. \nWith Slant of Light\, Alessandro Cardinale invites viewers to suspend their search for a definitive image and embrace the unstable nature of vision: what appears may disappear\, while what seems absent may suddenly emerge. The artwork is renewed with every encounter\, offering viewers an ever-changing experience in which seeing also means discovering\, losing and finding again. \nThe exhibition also renews the longstanding relationship between the artist and CRAG Gallery\, which began before the gallery was founded\, when Cardinale\, still a young artist\, took part in an international award organised by its founders and emerged as the winner. Over time\, this relationship has developed through a shared commitment to an original\, rigorous and coherent artistic practice\, finding a new expression today in this previously unseen body of work. \nINFORMAZIONI \nMostra: Slant of Light\nArtista: Alessandro Cardinale\nSede: CRAG – Chiono Reisova Art Gallery\, Via Parma 66D\, Torino\nPeriodo: 24 ottobre 2026 – 10 gennaio 2027\nInaugurazione: sabato 24 ottobre\, ore 10.00–21.00\nOrari: mostra visitabile ogni giorno su appuntamento. \nWebsite: www.cragallery.com\nInstagram: @cragallery \nUfficio stampa e informazioni:\nCRAG – Chiono Reisova Art Gallery \n  \n
